It's coming to Netflix on February 2, and I shall be binging!Tommy Kraskerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564935526936828636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-29561629422631806732017-01-12T15:46:54.955-05:002017-01-12T15:46:54.955-05:00Whovians also hate to miss any part of the narrati...Whovians also hate to miss any part of the narrative, however tangential! It's part of Doctor Who so I must watch it!! While I'm here, I also wonder if you watched The People Vs. OJ Simpson. That was another excellent show and also quite short. Series 1 of Broadchurch is also brilliant (and features David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Arthur Darvill no less) but don't bother with S2.Child of the 70shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15045667514712502457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-49327558035822980962017-01-10T18:54:52.659-05:002017-01-10T18:54:52.659-05:00So funny: the three people who've commented he...So funny: the three people who've commented here (you, Mark and Paul) are the three people I rely on most to tell me about great TV I might be missing. Mark actually called me last summer to ask if I was watching "The Night Of." I wasn't, and didn't get around to it while it was airing, but will definitely do a binge in the next month or so. (Paul, I know, is a staunch SHIELD fan, and at some point, I need to go back and revisit that one, too.) There are several new releases I'm still in the midst of watching (OA, Man in the High Castle), but I figured if I waited until I caught up with everything, I wouldn't be publishing my year-in-review till March!

I definitely know folks -- and folks I respect -- who liked Class, but I also know many (like you and me and Paul) who didn't enjoy it -- and yet we sat through the whole thing. We Doctor Who fans are a loyal bunch!Tommy Kraskerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564935526936828636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-14854725216075515882017-01-10T17:30:31.568-05:002017-01-10T17:30:31.568-05:00A great overview. I also agree that Humans was one of the highlights of the TV year - loved that show so much! Finally, Class - what happened there? I sat through them all but really struggled to enjoy them and, as your comment above, the best didn't even have the kids in it and was basically Doctor Who with Quill. They went for Buffy, they failed dismally! One you haven't included, which I think you'd like is The Night Of with Riz Ahmed and John Turturro. Only eight eps. Somebody opened the magical shoebox, I remember, but I can't for the life of me recall whether someone important died.

If they're going to do an episode that revolves around just one character next season (a la the Quill storyline), I do hope they choose April's Dad, Huw. His acting chops are positively Schwarzenegger-esque. And I mean that in a bad way.Paul Reedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02927027468227544676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-44851463737981025812017-01-10T10:59:22.295-05:002017-01-10T10:59:22.295-05:00Please, I should be thanking YOU for suggesting I ...Please, I should be thanking YOU for suggesting I watch "This Is Us." Don't know how I had missed it, when -- as it turns out -- nearly everyone I know has been watching. I'm sure others would argue differently, but yah, I think it's fantastic shlock vs. brilliant television, but I readily concede that we all need a regular fill of fantastic shlock.Tommy Kraskerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564935526936828636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-37249530678086561512017-01-10T10:45:31.579-05:002017-01-10T10:45:31.579-05:00Love this. Based on your take, I'm willing to concede that it's the latter and in the very best sense!Mark Bakalorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05592026826361935500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-31035387098804818722017-01-10T10:24:42.574-05:002017-01-10T10:24:42.574-05:00I wondered if I was judging Class too quickly: som...I wondered if I was judging Class too quickly: some great series, after all, take time to come together. But if you've only got eight episodes, you don't have time to TAKE your time, and the first four episodes, in particular, seemed gruelingly slow and achingly unconvincing. You know something's wrong when the best episode of the bunch -- I think it was the seventh, the one centering around Quill -- doesn't involve most of the regulars and doesn't take place in the school.Tommy Kraskerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564935526936828636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768495027896028196.post-56165857011259144672017-01-10T09:11:43.055-05:002017-01-10T09:11:43.055-05:00Yeah, the mess that is Class is something of a mys...Yeah, the mess that is Class is something of a mystery to me, too. Patrick Ness’ books are actually quite decent and seem to have a level of invention that just isn’t present in Class. Whether that’s because he feels he has to stretch his ideas out across potentially (please God, no!) many seasons and is afraid of showing us all his goods at once, or whether there’s just something restricting about writing a TV show based on an existing franchise, I have no idea. Plus, it just seems to bear no relation to its parent show. They might as well have stuck Peter Capaldi in an episode of Hawaii Five-O for all the good it did them. His appearance was an anomaly rather than a unifying factor.Paul Reedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02927027468227544676noreply@blogger.com
