Classic Film

After a decade of writing about classic TV, I started to branch out into classic film: specifically, the Golden Age of Hollywood.

In my most expansive essay, I do an in-depth look at the career of one of my favorite Hollywood directors, William Dieterle, whose classics include The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Devil and Daniel Webster and Portrait of Jennie.

In terms of actors, I examine Brian Aherne on the Screen, Randolph Scott’s 10 Best Films of the Fifties, and The Curious Career of James Craig. I delve into Errol Flynn's 33 films for Warner Bros. here, and into one of our greatest screen actresses, Margaret Sullavan, here.

I also serve up The 10 Best Screwball Comedies and The 25 Best Film Noirs, and some of the titles are sure to surprise you.
